Bangkok, fruitless searching, pampered to the max and exploring a luxury food court

What if you wanted to find a place and you couldn't find it? That was the thing with vintage shop/restaurant and bar Moose. We took a taxi for an hour but after some struggles we arrived at the place...but it didn't exist anymore. So never go to find Moose in the Sukhumvit area, because it is gone. We wandered around the streets in Sukhumvit to find a nice place to eat some Thai food afterwards...but unfortunately we saw only Japanese, Korean en Western restaurants. We took another taxi, a one hour drive back again and ended up in a tiny street food restaurant opposite of our hotel where we finally had a nice cold Singha beer and lovely Pad Thai. Traveling is searching, wandering and exploring. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

The next day we left the busy world far behind us by visiting the Oasis Spa in the heart of Sukhumvit in the middle of Bangkok. What a great place. Bangkok Oasis Spa is a dream place for those searching for a relaxing escape. The charming spa is dedicated to soothing sensations and blends gracious and gentle service with wonderful treatments. The healing ambience of its delicate decorations and stunning surroundings only adds to a truly exotic world of beauty, serenity and pleasure. We loved our one hour aromatherapy Hot Oil Massage. This massage perfectly combines the best of Western Swedish massage therapy and Eastern Thai massage techniques along with Aromatherapy. Make a reservation because this place is really popular. It is high end but worth the money!

Totally relaxed we got a free ride from the Oasis Spa to the luxury mall, the EM District, next to the Phrom Phong BTS Station on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Road. It is an ambitious multi-billion baht retail project comprising three different luxury shopping malls. The District EM is worth a visit, no matter what! Because it includes the most luxury clean food court we've ever seen, the Quartier Foodhall! You have to buy special coins to pay for the food and you can choose from all kinds of Thai Food in separate booth's. Wander around all those choices of food and decide what to eat after having seen all those delicious kinds of food. The EM District is the latest business district and tourist destination of the three world-class projects: The Emporium, The EmQuartier and The EmSphere. We only took a glimpse of the EMQuartier project, but you can spend hours and hours exploring the three projects if you want.

After this luxury mall we had a short visit to the MBK mall to find a power bank, gadget girls as we are. On our way to the electronic gadgets we saw a nice wigg that Margré tried on. The staff of the shop was waiting patiently until they demanded after a short while that they needed the wigg for their mannequin doll.

Never a dull moment with DDTS ;-)!

We found ourselves right on top of the swimming pool on a glass floor at Long Table restaurant. It's situated on the 25th floor of the Column Tower. Long Table opened its doors in 2008 and has become one of the city's top hotspots. The main room features a 25 meter teak table, which can seat up to 70 people and is the world's longest dining table. We had a table for two on the outside instead of sitting at the long table and had a lovely view over Bangkok City companied by a bright moon. Both the food and the service were excellent and we tipped the waiter extra for that because it was more than worth it! The official name of the long table is: The Long Table of Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara AyuthayaMahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. So practise before you make a reservation for it ;-)! A reservation in advance is recommended, especially during the weekend.

The next day we went to Vanilla Garden in the Ekamai 12 area in Sukhumvit. The relaxing atmosphere of the cafe with a view of a garden inside the compound makes it a favorite spot for locals and foreigners. The Vanilla Bakeshop became an instant hit since 2014 and transformed into a famous hang-out spot for all Thai trendsetters and celebrities. We had the privilege to sit outside in the sun and we enjoyed our lunch with an open faced sandwich with salmon, topped with salmon roe and drinks served in hip jars of course ;-). Unfortunately the book store in the Vanilla Garden has closed its doors some time ago. The bookstore was the main reason to check out this place for us. But it is still worth a visit to have a relaxed lunch in the garden.

By chance we found a very clean health spa, Health Land, in the neighborhood. It's a great spa where you can have all sorts of body massages, facials and foot reflexology at affordable prices. We chose a one hour foot massage and we relaxed to the max!

Full of energy, after this spa treatment, we dressed up to go to Sala Rattanakosin to have dinner. It cost us two taxi's to reach this hotel because taxi drivers always say yes but don't even understand where you want to go. The food was not really special but the view of Wat Arun on the opposite side of the river was so beautiful that we absolutely recommend this place. We ended our luxury trip in style with fire works. We pampered ourselves thoroughly in Bangkok with roof top views, good food and drinks, hip places to spot and a spa on top of that. It fits us, that's for sure!

New York versus Bangkok

New York versus Bangkok
Desiré

New York! This time I walked around in the neighborhood of NoHo. I wanted to go to the New Museum ….. closed…. ok, then to 41 Cooper Square … not open for public ….. sigh … O well, this neighborhood has enough other nice things to offer, from a candy store, chic Bond street to great wall art!

Margré

Today I arrived in Bangkok after a long long flight. I went by boat to “The endless summer” restaurant. Such a super beautiful industrial-style restaurant! It is nestled between old buildings. You must know where it is or you would never find such a beautiful gem located in between those houses. Very good Thai food and a Hammond organ provided the music from the speakers!

Bangkok
A beautiful day in bloody hot Bangkok. We took the private hotel boat to the skytrain and travelled by train to the MBK. At the MBK we had our business cards printed. On the second floor of the MBK Center you can find a lot of printing shops. Printing on demand, waiting for less than two hours for two hundred business cards. Not bad. We designed our business card with a hole in it. The print shop wasn’t able to cut out the hole, so now we have to do it ourselves. We went to Siam Discovery, a high end mall with brands like Cartier, Chanel and Dior. The Thai people waited in long lines to spend money in one of those expensive shops. Beside that, Siam Tower had more to offer. A lot of hip design shops are inside this mall. Worth a visit. We had dinner in Sukhumvit 49 at Smith. After the main dish they asked: “Would you like a desert?” We said that we didn’t want a camel but instead a single espresso ;-)!

Arrived in the morning. After having a short nap, for the first time while travelling together, we split up for our night program. Desiré went to the concert of ‘the Script’ and Margré was having a small dinner and had a calm evening. The concert took place at the Impact Stadium and dinner took place at ‘The never ending summer’, a very hip industrial design restaurant at the opposite of the river. At the end of the night we were reunited and we took a glass of wine to finish up a long day!

Bangkok
Today we started at the pool and after surfing on the internet we found our new goal of the day: we would take a taxi to drive an hour out of town to visit Rot Fai Market. It is also called Train Market and it is a huge vintage market. If you love vintage you have to go to that market! Before we entered the taxi back to the hotel we wanted to take a coffee. It was really weird that we had to leave our flip flops outside the café and got disinfection stuff for our hands before entering the café. Inside the place smelled like there were lots of cats living there. It turned out we had ended up in Makuba Cat Café. The coffee tasted a bit weird after that experience. But worth a visit if you like to hug pets instead of drinking a nice cup of coffee!
