San Francisco/Carmel
Today we went to the south: headed to Carmel and arrived in a golf parc, but after some searching we found the right Carmel with super beautiful streets. From Carmel we drove along the beautiful California Pacific Coast Highway 1, the way to Big Sur. Breathtaking scenery, azure water and rugged cliffs. We felt privileged to experience this beautiful landscape. It had the same atmosphere as the coast line of the Campsbay route from Cape Town and feels laidback like LA.

We settled down in San Francisco. We did some hilarious shopping on Market Street and bought books at the great bookstore William Stout Architectual Books on Montgomery Street. Books about art, fashion, architecture, life style, travel…a Walhalla! We ended with a nice glass of wine and little bite at the Archive bar & kitchen on Mission Street.

New York
What a wonderful day in New York City. The weather was magnificent and we started our day in Soho and visited the wonderful bookshop Mc Nally Jackson on Prince Street. Our own Dutch actor Michiel Huisman was represented on a cover of a trendy magazine. We had to make a picture of that! Prince Street is such a nice street. We liked the atmosphere and by chance we came across Ladurée on 396 West Broadway, including the Salon de Thé with the best macarones. In the courtyard it almost seemed like we were in Paris. We had a business meeting while enjoying the delicious macarones and had a perfect cup of tea. We took the subway back to Bryant Park. What a fantastic park. Everybody was sitting on the grass or at a table having lunch, drinking coffee or having a break. A vibrant park! New York is truly our favorite metropolis. We arrived in New York City, dressed up and had a drink in the very hip NoMad bar in The NoMad Hotel on 1170 Broadway. It has several bars with professional cocktail makers. A must-visit! Take in all the dark mahogany and leather, the carved elephants that support the shelves of bottles, and the bartenders, backlit like priests at a pagan ritual. And also important: the cocktails are delicious!

We started at the Alexander Book Co on Second street. A beautiful book store with all kinds of books, coffee table books, travel books, literature and so on. We spent almost one hour in that store. We walked through China town and saw some nice graffiti walls. San Francisco is pretty famous for that. We ended up in the Italian district. First we went to Lola on Columbus Avenue. A store packed with all kinds of cards and nice gadgets. You can hear people laughing out loud when reading all the funny text messages on those cards. On the same street, a couple of doors next, the nice candy store Z.Cioccolato is worth a visit. Don’t eat too much! Caffé De Lucchi is a nice spot to have lunch while sitting in the sun and having a nice glass of prosseco. If you like this, check it out!

We arrived with our ‘proud blue KLM bird’ in San Francisco. We were visiting Market street and had a coffee in a coffee bar where our cappuccino’s were served by Michaelknight. He was named by the tv serie of the Knight rider with David Hasselhoff. How cute was that ;-). We said goodbye and left the coffee bar while singing the tune of the tv series and followed our way into the city.
